A bit surreal. Beyond the real and beyond the surface. A protagonist traveling down a rabbit hole to a wonderland. Somehow a melancholy happy ending.

Great book. Great characters. Lots of emotions throughout and not to wordy or to much information. Not sure how I feel about the ending, but not sure what else there was to say. I just wanted more I guess.

I was so engrossed in the early chapters. Interesting characters. Such possibility! I could not put the book down even as it got more convoluted I was hoping for resolution. The ending was such a disappointment. I loved Bel Canto

This is a novel that grows on you, the deeper you read. The beginning seems trite, though it tries so hard to be emotional. It’s just that I’ve read this set-up a dozen times before. However, once you get past the first couple of chapters, the characters, setting, and plot take off. There’s a lot of detail to love in this story. The sort of unusual environment that takes talent to make realistic. Patchett does a great job of developing her characters beyond the surface, and that helps with the ending. It’s a good, fun, interesting read.
