Book Synopsis

Thousands of books have been written about the latest and greatest diets that will help people lose weight and improve health. But a key element in any successful nutritional health program is a tried-and-true method that most people haven't thought about--yet it could be revolutionary for taking health to the next level. This ancient secret is fasting.

Fasting is not about starving oneself. When done right, it's an incredibly effective therapeutic approach that produces amazing results regardless of diet plan. In fact, Toronto-based nephrologist Dr. Jason Fung has used a variety of fasting protocols with more than 1,000 patients, with fantastic success. In "The Complete Guide to Fasting" he has teamed up with international bestselling author and veteran health podcaster Jimmy Moore to explain what fasting is really about, why it's so important, and how to fast in a way that improves health. Together, they make fasting as a therapeutic approach both practical and easy to understand.

"The Complete Guide to Fasting" explains:

- why fasting is actually good for health
- who can benefit from fasting (and who won't)
- the history of fasting
- the various ways to fast: intermittent, alternate-day, and extended fasting
- what to expect when starting to fast
- how to track progress while fasting
- the weight loss effects of fasting
- how to ward off potential negative effects from fasting.

The book also provides tools to help readers get started and get through their fasts, including a 7-Day Kick-Start Fasting Plan and healing liquid recipes.

  • Good book, bad iBook

    By roselma
Arguably, this is the best resource for information on fasting; however, as many others have noted, actually using the information therein is difficult because this is not an ordinary iBook, it is a PDF. The two most irritating implications of this for me are that one must zoom in on each page and one cannot highlight or annotate the book. Also highly irritating is that many words are runtogetherlikethis.
  • Good content but bad formatting

    By miTnosnhoJ
This is basically a pdf version of the paper book. You cannot change the font size, which is very small. Do not buy this on the iBook Store.
  • The complete guide to Fasting but Jason Fund MD

    By Bri Leary
I have read cover to cover and this book is so good about going into the history of Diabetes and treatments weather good or bad. The hormonal and digestive education is key to understanding how we work and have survived ! I have been doing intermittent fasting for a few years and feel great, however , the missing technique has been EXTENDED FASTING ! I needed the this to get by my resistance to losing weight and the assurance that I will not lose muscle or drop.
  • Five Stars But Format Problems

    By ARickC
Solid information and clearly written. But poor formatting on iPad a Mac run together words. For example — “ Theunderlying assumptionofmacronutrient” a many page problem.
  • Great Guide to Fasting

    By markgraf31
I've never fasted before but have recently started a low carb, moderate protein and high fat diet to lose weight and help my blood sugars to get under control (I have Type 1 Diabetes). This book makes fasting a very logical and heathy way to lose weight and be overall more healthy. I will be doing my first fast tomorrow and am excited to learn more as I go.
  • Tremendous resource for fasting info

    By Seanaapl
Over the last 6 months I’ve implemented time restricted eating (16-18 hour daily fasts) and have been looking to go beyond that for the theraputic benefits. This book lays out the science along with real world experiences of all the different fasting durations. Other books seem to focus on one type or only a couple types of fasting. The book is focused on examples of obese/dialbetic patients which is who Dr Fung treats. Not falling into that category made it a little less useful but it’s still the best book of fasting I’ve found.
  • PDF instead of iBooks!

    By jfkaess
I should have read the reviews before buying this. It's a pdf file and is bot formatted fir iBooks. Here's what that means: 1. You can not copy and paste anything in the book 2. You can not highlight anything in the book 3. You can not change the font size of the text T is completely unacceptable that Apple allowed this to be sold as an iBook.

  • The Obesity Code Is a Must Read!

    By KJVOnly
The best book on the subject of obesity, bar none! Well written, full of science, but accessible to the non-technical reader. If you have wondered why you cannot seem to successfully lose weight or are frustrated with moderate weight loss success only to see it all come back again with a vengeance, then this book is a MUST read for you.
  • Formatting Issues But Wonderful Book!

    By noteslinger
For those wanting a refund due to the formatting issues with the iBooks version, just contact the iTunes Store in your Apple account and they will refund. I let the publisher know and they are working on it from what I understand. Very quick to respond to my concerns! Meanwhile, I do recommend purchasing the Kindle version. The book is wonderful and full of great info on this topic, so I was going to get any version I could to be able to read it!
